This is a very personal song. I was separated from my daughter when she was about four years old. We talked often on the phone, but over time I could tell she was getting bored — the calls weren’t something she looked forward to anymore. One day she wandered off mid-conversation, and I eventually realized I was talking to myself. It’s kind of funny now, but back then it hit hard. The next time I picked up the guitar, this song just fell out. I barely had to edit or rewrite a thing.
